Places You Can Go For Gorilla Safaris

Gorilla safaris in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

In this national park, there are four sectors namely Buhoma, Nkuringo, Rushaga, Ruhija where
they have all gorilla families.

Buhoma Sector:

This is the pioneer sector for gorilla trekking activities and is located in the north western part of the park, close to the Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth national park. It offers various lodging places and offers the Batwa cultural experience.
There are gorilla families situated here such as Mubare, Rushegura, Muyambi, Katwe and
Habinyanja.

Rushaga Sector:

This is located in the southern part of Bwindi in Kisoro district, near Lake Mutanda and bordering Nkruringo. While here, Mishaya gorilla family can be sighted, Nshongi, Busingye,
Kahungye, Rwigi, Bikingi are also found here, giving you a better gorilla habitation experience.

Nkuringo Sector:

In the southern part of Bwindi is where you can find Nkuringo, which is approximately 45 kilometers from Kabale-Kisoro main road, an hour and a half drive. Bushaho, Nkuringo and Christmas gorilla families are those you will find here. This sector is mountainous and so expect a very different kind of trek and trails, which is also the sector specification.

Ruhija Sector:

This sector located in the eastern part of the park, with in Rubanda district and is characterized by rain forests which makes it a home for many bird species hence a birding haven. It also has gorillas to trek such as Bitukura, Kyaguliro, Oruzogo gorilla families.

NOTE: It is important to note that a gorilla trekking activity can take 2-7 hours as you spot the animals. While partaking of the activity, you will witness them doing whatever they do in their daily lives.

Gorilla safaris in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park

Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is located in the southern part of Uganda, very close to Kisoro district having habituated gorilla families for example the Nyakagezi gorilla family. These are known for their
love for snaps and very calm beings compared to others.
In Mgahinga, the gorilla trek takes about 2-6 hours in small groups of 8 which helps each person enjoy moments with gorillas. However, this park is less crowded compared to Bwindi, which make most of its trails less uneven.

Best Time To Do Gorilla Safaris In Uganda

The best times for gorilla trekking and habituation in Uganda is the dry season (July to August and December to February). This is the ideal time for walking on the trails as they are dry and less slippery and you can have an interrupted face to face interaction with the gorillas.
